It is expected that most, if not all, Planning Authorities will already have approved structure plan or adopted local plan policies in place dealing with wind farm development.  With resources now focused on the preparation of strategic development plan and local development plan main issues reports, it is recommended that before embarking on policy development (or indeed commissioning any expert reports) that a review of existing policy and analysis is undertaken to determine to what extent it is in compliance with SPP 6.  This will then to determine the extent of any policy review and specialist studies.  It may be possible to selectively update existing policy.
